The Synergy Training for AU-UN Resources (STAR) is a specialized training programme designed to strengthen the operational skills of African Union and United Nations Secretariat staff. STAR prepares participants to effectively carry out support responsibilities in joint engagements, ensuring smooth collaboration between the two organizations.

Through the STAR learning journey, participants will:

• Build familiarity with AU and UN administrative and support mechanisms
• Identify common ground when conducting joint operations
• Address operational challenges
• Deliver on their responsibilities as managers and team leaders

The programme follows a blended learning approach, combining online webinars with an in-person workshop, supported by a tailored handbook and self-paced learning resources. Each annual STAR cohort consists of about 20 AU and UN staff at middle and senior management levels, enabling them to deepen their understanding of both organizations and develop the skillsets needed to operate effectively in joint field operations.

STAR is implemented under the Knowledge and Expertise Exchange Programme (KEEP), which aims to enhance AU-UN cooperation on operational support matters by developing the knowledge and expertise of personnel from both organizations. KEEP is managed jointly by the United Nations Department for Operational Support and the Cabinet of the Deputy Chairperson of the African Union Commission.
